📖 The Thirty-Six Cards

A group made 36 picture cards for a matching game. Each pair needed two cards with the same picture. Mira divided 36 by 2 and found that they could make 18 pairs. Her partner suggested six storage envelopes. They placed six cards, or three pairs, in each envelope. Before sealing them, they checked that no matching pair had been split between envelopes. The game was easier to set up because each packet held complete pairs.

1. How many pairs can 36 cards make?

2. How many cards go in each of six envelopes?
