📖 The Rectangle Redesign
A model display board measured 12 centimeters by 8 centimeters. Its area was 96 square centimeters and its perimeter was 40 centimeters. A second design measured 16 centimeters by 6 centimeters. It also had an area of 96 square centimeters, but its perimeter was 44 centimeters. The team preferred the second shape for fitting long labels, yet it needed more edging tape. Equal area did not mean equal perimeter. The designers had to consider both the usable surface and the materials needed around it.
1. What is the area of each design?
2. What are their perimeters?
3. How much more edging does the second need?
4. Why might the team still prefer the second?
